Long A, Matching One to One, and A Butterfly's Life Cycle

Hello all and happy Wednesday! Today in class we learned about the long ‘A’ sound, matching numbers and objects one to one, and all about a butterfly’s life cycle. Please click on the “Alphablocks” video that we watched today in Phonics. I think most of the students would love to watch it again at home.

For homework, please complete page 34, and 35 in the Week by Week phonics book and Chapter 3 page 4, 5, and 6 in the Math Workbook. As always practice the tricky words on the card inside your child’s folder. I will assess them on Friday and give them a new card if they have mastered the words on their current card.

During homework tonight, ask your child if they can make the sound for the long 'a' and the short 'a.' See if they can show you how to write the short 'a' and the long 'a' as shown in the Alphablocks video (ai, ay, a_e). Last week, we learned about our vowel hand. The tips of our fingers represent the short vowels, and the base of our hand represents the long vowels. I explained to the students that all words that we read or write have a vowel. Below is a video with only Jolly Phonics short and long vowels. Sing along at home if you are able!
